| It's fun to play in the sun, but did you know that too much sun can be bad for you? If you ever had sunburn, you have felt some of the bad effects of too much sun and ultraviolet (UV) radiation. Too many UV rays can cause more serious health effects too, such as skin cancer; older looking skin, and other skin problems; cataracts and other eye damage; and weakening of the immune system. (The immune system is what keeps us from getting sick.) Children need sun protection education since too much sun when you are young may lead to skin cancer later in life. The good news is that you can prevent UV radiation from hurting you. You need to practice good sun safe habits while you are young. You should stay sun-safe all of your life. As the love of the outdoors and recreational sports grows worldwide, and the ozone layer is being depleted, this only serves to increase U.V. exposure and the record skin cancer rates. Skin cancers are now the fastest growing cancers in the sun-exposed areas of the World. In these areas more than 50% of all diagnosed cancers today are skin cancers and exposure to the sun is the primary risk factor. As awareness of this quiet epidemic grows, so too does the need for innovative shading products such as SAIL SHADES. The ozone layer forms a thin shield high up in the sky. It protects life on Earth from the sun's ultraviolet (UV) rays. In the 1980s, scientists began finding clues that the ozone layer was going away or being depleted. This allows more UV radiation to reach the Earth's surface. This can cause people to have a greater chance of getting too much UV radiation. Too much UV can cause bad health effects like skin cancer, eye damage, and get you sick easier. Sail Shades are very effective and even recommended by cancer researchers as a good preventative measure against skin cancer. Sail Shade structures can vary immensely from relatively small 3 metre x 3 metre triangles to huge areas covering seating areas in stadiums. |
